What Would Google Do?

Jeff doesn’t give the “Google story”, instead he presents his information in a way of how a business should approach presenting itself online to have the best chance of getting “Googlejuice”.

He gives an 8 point checklist on how to present information about you, your company or your products/services online to have the best chance to be picked up by Google.

Condensed, here it is:

  • Make sure all the information anybody could want about what you want to convey is on the web, and easibly searchable by Google
  • Be clear and concise-don’t use fancy/industry slang names to describe what you do or what services you offer
  • Don’t use fancy technology on your page to make the content do anything other than what it is supposed to do
  • Don’t bury your content in data bases or management systems, make it easy to find
  • Give everything it’s own permanent address, so that Google will always know where to send people looking for what you offer
  • Create seperate pages for all your topics-don’t combine several topics into one page-be specific
  • Make it very easy for anyone to link to your pages, Google loves inbound links
  • Make sure that you put your brand on each page, people need to know where they are when they get there

Jeff hit it on the head. If all local businesses followed this model for building a website there would be a lot more successful local web companies!
